An extremely rare and interesting Armenian fals struck by the City Council of Dvin

ARMENIA, City Council of Dvin. Fals (Bronze, 20 mm, 6.33 g), anonymous. Dvin, circa AH 550-558 = AD 1155-1163. Symbol within dotted circle; around, illegible legend. Rev. Bird standing right, flanked by three pellets on the left and a single pellet on the right; around, illegible legend. A. Akopyan: Dvin in the eleventh and twelfth centuries. City history in the light of new numismatic materials, p. 1039, type 22. Of the highest rarity and of great interest. Minor pitting, otherwise, good fine.

A. Akopyan attributes this fascinating type to the short period of time between the death of the Shaddadid Amir Fahr al-Din Ahdabid in 1155 and the capture of the city of Dvin by the Atabeq of Azerbaijan Eligüz in 1163
